GALERI KAIN TRADISIONAL DI PALEMBANG.
Traditional fabrics of Palembang, such as songket, woven fabric, and batik, are an integral part of the cultural identity of the Palembang community. However, the diminishing space for traditional art in everyday life has led to a decline in appreciation for the beauty and cultural value of these traditional fabrics. Due to the lack of facilities and knowledge among the Palembang community regarding traditional fabrics, there is a need for a facility that can accommodate production and sales activities while educating the public about the process, history, and culture of traditional fabrics in South Sumatra, especially in Palembang. The facility should also address waste management, either by reducing waste or processing it to prevent harm to the environment and human health. The gallery aims to educate the community and become a producer of environmentally friendly traditional textile. With three main issues in the Traditional Fabric Gallery building, namely Comfort (air ventilation and lighting), environmental friendliness, and connection to local culture or vernacular, the concept adopted for the Traditional Fabric Gallery in Palembang is the eco-cultural concept. With this concept, the characteristics of the site, such as vegetation, are generally left undisturbed to reduce the environmental impact of construction. The building has a modern appearance with touches of local culture, both in the philosophy of its form and facade.
