Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith) is a new pest in maize cultivation in Indonesia which is detrimental because it attacks the growing points of maize plants. Endophytic fungi have not been widely used as entomopathogenic fungi which have potential in pest control. In several countries, endophytic fungi have been found to be used as control of S. frugiperda. However, there is still little information on endophytic entomopathogenic fungi in South Sumatra. Therefore, this study aims to observe the negative effect of endophytic fungi from South Sumatra on pupal mortality and development of S. frugiperda. This research was conducted at the Entomology Laboratory, Department of Plant Pests and Diseases, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University on July to November 2022. This study used a Randomized Block Design (RBD) using 13 treatments and a control repeated 3 times using the temperature and relative humidity in the annex. The results of endophytic fungal isolates that have calculated the spore density (1 × 1010 conidia mL-1 ) were applied topically to the pupae. The results showed that endophytic fungi were capable of becoming entomopathogenic fungi because they could kill 22.67% of the pupae in JaSPKPga (2) isolates of Beauveria bassiana species, the highest larval mortality 5.17% was found in JaSPKPga (2) isolates of Beauveria bassiana species. 13 isolates of endophytic fungi have potential as entomopathogenic fungi. However, the high or low mortality rate of insects can be affected because S. frugiperda is not the main host of each endophytic fungus isolate, so host adjustments are needed. However, it can cause defects in pupae and imago and reduce the number of F2 generation eggs and the number of hatched eggs. This shows that the application of endophytic fungi topically can have a negative effect on the development of S. frugiperda.
