At ML (Mining License) Air Laya mine, PT. Bukit Asam has a MDP (Mud Deposition Pond) of 21 ML. In the management of acid mine water in ML Air Laya Bukit Asam mine comes from a variety of conditions, such as from the stockpile, excavation, sump, stockpile, etc. the initial pH of acid mine water at each MDP varies with a range of 5-6. In their management they use active and passive methods (combination) or active only. Management of acid mine water in the active method using quicklime as a reagent in the process of neutralizing the pH of acid mine water and alum which serves to precipitate impurities remnants of former coal mines carried into the water. The liming and filling process is carried out at the inlet of the sludge settling pond. While in the passive method they use phytoremediation by using aquatic plants in wetland ponds, such as: water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes), Kiambang (Salvinia natans), cat tail (Typha latifolia), etc. Water plants are useful as a hyperaccumulator in absorbing heavy metals (Fe Mn) and decreasing pH levels. In the process of coal wastewater treatment, the final results of management are adjusted to water quality standards so that they can be safely drained into the local residents 'rivers. The research was conducted on July 11, 2022 to August 11, 2022. The research used is using Latin square design (RBSL). Water samples in this experiment were taken from MDP AL-14 (Park) from the stockpile, MDP AL-02 from the stockpile runoff, and MDP MT-03 from the stockpile. The research experiment was conducted using a passive method using floating aquatic fern plants only. in this study it was found that the use of floating aquatic fern plants (Salvinia natans) did not differ significantly in the reduction of metal levels (Fe, Mn).
