Imoroving narrative wrting achievement of the 10 th graders of SMA Negeri 1 Inderalaya Utara by using film trailers
This study reports on the use of film trailers toward writing narrative text. Film trailers were applied in this study to improve the students` writing scores. The purposes of this study were to find out (1) the significant improvement of students’ narrative writing achievement and (2) the contribution of film trailers to the students’ narrative writing achievement. The population of this study was 124 students, while the sample was 64 students that were purposively taken from the tenth graders of SMA N 1 Indralaya Utara in the academic year of 2013/2014. Writing test was employed to collect the data. The result showed that there was improvement in students’ writing scores. The mean score of post-test in experimental group was 72.73, which increased 26.95 points from the pretest (45.78). In the control group, the mean score increased 11.8 points,from 38.67 to 50.47. It means that there was significant improvement in narrative writing achievement. The increasing mean score of experimental group was higher than control group. The result of the regression analysis was 0.518. It means that the contribution of film trailers to the narrative writing achievement of the tenth graders of SMA N 1 Indralaya Utara was 51.8%. Conclusively, it is considered that film trailers are effective in teaching narrative writing to the tenth graders.
