Teaching writing descriptive text through hyponnymy games to the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Inderlaya Utara
This study was conducted to find out: (1) whether or not there was any significant difference in descriptive writing achievement of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Indralaya Utara before and after they were taught through Hyponymy Games and (2) whether or not there was any significant difference in descriptive writing achievement between the students who were taught through hyponymy games and those who were not. The population of this study was the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Indralaya Utara with the total number of the students were sixty six students. The sample of the study was taken by using convenience sampling method and taught for sixteen meetings including the pretest and the posttest. The total number of the sample was forty four students consisting of twenty two students in the experimental group and twenty two students in the control group. The method of this study was quasiexperimental method. Writing test was used as the instrument in collecting the data. The test was administered twice as the pre-test and the post-test. The result of the test was analyzed by using T-test (paired sample and independent sample t-test) through Statistical package for Social Science (SPSS) 21 for Windows. The results of paired sample ttest showed that there was a significant difference in descriptive writing achievement of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Indralaya Utara before and after they were taught through Hyponymy Games. From the results of independent sample t-test showed that there was a significant difference in descriptive writing achievement between the students who were taught through Hyponymy Games and those who were not.
