Pest attacks on red chili plants can cause damage to crop failure. Damage caused by pest attacks on red chili plants causes yield losses can reach 25-100%. The purpose of this study was to test the effectiveness of botanical pesticides in suppressing pest populations on red chili (Capsicum annum L.). This research was conducted in May until Deptember 2022, located at Experimental Garden, Department of Plant Pests and Diseases, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya, Ogan Ilir Regency. This research was conducted using an experimental method with the application of botanical pesticides consisting of leaf extract of Citrus sinensis, tropical almond (Terminia catappa), Indian mulberry (Morinda citrifolia), and common lantana (Lantana camara) with 4 treatments and 5 replications. The results of this study indicated that the most dominant insect pest found on red chili plants was Aphis gossypii with a total of 54 individuals, while the lowest insect was Leptysma marginicollis. The most severe damages on red chili plants was caused by Bactrocera carambolae with damages ranged from 0.01 ˗ 0.52%. The Shonnon-Wiener diversity index values, the distribution of individual species, and the proportion of species that dominate insect pests on red chili plants were classified as low in the pantrap, yellowtrap, and direct observation.
