PENGARUH PENGGUNAAN GIGI TIRUAN PENUH DENGAN SKEMA OKLUSAL CANINE GUIDED OCCLUSION TERHADAP FUNGSI MASTIKASI (Literature Review)
Background : The need for prosthodontic treatment is increasing because many elderly residents are edentulous, so they need full dentures to restore masticatory function. Complete denture fabrication requires retention, stability and support of the remaining tissues. This is influenced by the selection of a good occlusal scheme. Canine guided occlusion is an alternative occlusal scheme with minimal use of muscle activity and a good level of comfort. Objective : The Aim of this literature is to determine the effect of using full dentures with the occlusal canine guided occlusion scheme on masticatory function with a minimum use of 30 days. Methods : literature review is using Google scholar, DOAJ, Science direct, and pubmed data for the last 15 years calculated from 2007 to 2022. The journals used were fit with the inclusion and exclusion criteria then analyzed using cochrane collaboration tools and summarized to obtain data on the masticatory function of the canine guided occlusion occlusal scheme. Results : Ten randomized controlled trial journals with low bias results in this literature review. Seven out of ten journals stated that the occlusal canine guided occlusion scheme made the masticatory function better in patients complete dentures. Conclusion : The use of full dentures with the occlusal canine guided occlusion scheme has the effect to masticatory function as minimal muscle activity but does not reduce the quality of mastication based on objective and subjective research.
