PENGARUH PREHEATING TERHADAP KEKUATAN KOMPRESI RESIN KOMPOSIT SINGLE SHADE UNIVERSAL
Background: Single shade universal composite resin is a composite resin that is able to adapt all of the tooth colors, the use of composite resin generally leaves unpolymerized monomers thereby reducing mechanical strength, especially compressive strength. Several studies found that preheating is one way to increase the compressive strength of composite resins. Objective: This study aims to know the effect of preheating on the compressive strength of single shade universal composite resin. Method: Laboratory experimental research used 18 cylindrical composite resin sample with a diameter of 4 mm and a thickness of 6 mm which were divided into 2 groups, namely single shade universal composite resin without preheating group and single shade universal composite resin with preheating at 60oC group. Samples were prepared by heating the composite resin in a composite heater at 60oC for 15 minutes. The samples was put in the mold and irradiated using a light curing unit with an intensity of 2300 mW/cm³ for 6 seconds. The samples were then polished using composite polishing kits and a compressive strength was performed using a universal testing machine. The results of the data obtained were analyzed using a normality test, followed by an independent t test. Results: There was a significant difference between the compressive strength of single shade universal composite resin without preheating and single shade universal composite resin with preheating at 60oC (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Preheating can affect the compressive strength of single shade universal composite resin in increasing its strength.
