KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDE OF DENTIST IN PALEMBANG RELATED TO DENTAL CARE FOR HIV/AIDS PATIENT (TRACER STUDY OF ALUMNI BKGM FK UNSRI)
Background: Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a retrovirus that attacks the human immune system causing a set of symptoms and infection called Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). At the end of 2020, the number of HIV/AIDS cases in Indonesia was 37.7 million. Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and attitudes of dentists in Palembang city regarding the dental care of HIV/AIDS patients. Methods: An observational analytic cross-sectional study design was conducted on 71 dentists who graduated from Sriwijaya University that practice in Palembang city. 38 closed questionnaires filled out via google form. Data analysis was performed using the Fisher exact test. Results: 90,1% of respondents had good knowledge and 94,4% had a positive attitude. The result of the Fisher exact test showed a p-value of 0,346 (>0,05). Conclusion: There is no significant relationship between the knowledge and attitudes of dentists in Palembang regarding the dental care of HIV/AIDS patients.
