This study aims to determine intercultural communication between ethnic Chinese and Indigenous in Sukajaya Village, Sukarami District, Palembang City, South Sumatra Province. The theory used in this study is Social Distance which consists of Stereotypes, Prejudice and Discrimination. This study uses a qualitative phenomenological approach which aims to look at various situations or social realities that apply to ethnic Chinese and indigenous peoples in Sukajaya Village, Sukarami District, Palembang City, South Sumatra Province. Research using depthinterviews with a number of ethnic Chinese and indigenous informants. In addition, the obser-vation and analysis of literature related to this research. Analysis of the data is written in anarrative inductive. An important results show that intercultural communication between Chinese and ethnic Chinese in Sukajaya Village, Sukarami District, Palembang City, South Sumatra Province, is going relatively well. The obstacle that occur in intercultural communication are due to differences in and understanding of language, customs, economy as well as stereotypes, prejudices and discrimination of each ethnicity. Language is the main factor that often becomes an obstacle to intercultural communication. Keywords: Intercurtural Communication, Social Distance, Stereotypes, Prejudices, Discrimination
