This research discussed about the economic strategy of lebak swamp peasant societies in Ibul Besar I Village, Pemulutan District, Ogan Ilir Regency. This research uses the descriptive qualitative method. Observation, interviews and documentation collected data. The analysis uses the theory Moral Economy of peasant by James Scott. The results showed that peasant societies and their problems caused the income earned by peasant to be unable to meet the communities’ needs. To meet the living needs of peasant societies, communities not only devote their energy to rice farming but also other businesses outside of rice farming. Societies in Ibul Besar Village use three survival strategies or mechanisms in their limitations. The strategy uses relations and social networks, alternative subsistence, tightening the belt. In addition to farming, the peasant in Ibul Besar I Village has other jobs to earn additional income to meet their daily needs because the peasant only relies on income through farming is not enough. Then they look for loans from social networks they have; when their income is low, they try to find additional revenue or go into debt. The strategy to keep economic needs is a combination of activities and choices individuals and societies make to achieve prosperity as a form of continuous improvement.
