PERAN SELF CONTROL TERHADAP LEARNED HELPLESSNESS PADA PEROKOK AKTIF YANG GAGAL BERHENTI MEROKOK
The aim of this study was to determine whether there is a role for self-control in learned helplessness among active smokers who fail to quit smoking. The hypothesis in this study posits that self-control plays a role in the learned helplessness. The population in this study consisted of active smokers who had failed to quit smoking. The sample size for this study comprised 200 active smokers who had failed to quit smoking, along with an additional 50 active smokers who had failed to quit smoking for the trial. The sampling technique used in this study was purposive sampling. The learned helplessness variable was measured using a scale that was prepared based on the explanatory style dimension proposed by Seligman (2006), while the self-control variable was measured using a scale developed by the researcher based on the aspects proposed by Averill (1973). Data analysis involved the use of a simple regression technique. The results indicate that the R-Square value = 0.111. The F value = 24.680 with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.005). This shows that self control has significant role on learned helplessness variable. Therefore, the hypothesis in this study can be accepted.
