The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between optimism and student engagement on high school students. This study hypothesizes that there is a relationship between optimism and student engagement. The population of this study are 330 high school students in Palembang city. The sampling technique used was incidental sampling. Optimism is measured using optimism scale which refers to dimensions of optimism by Seligman (2006) and Students Engagement in Schools Questionnaire developed by Hart, Stewart, and Jimerson (2011) and already translated by Sari (2019), hypothesis testing was conducted using pearson’s product moment correlation analysis The correlation of pearson’s product moment shows the value of r = 0,476 with p value = 0.000 (p
