UJI AKTIVITAS ANTIBAKTERI PASTA GIGI EKSTRAK BIJI DUKU (Lansium domesticum) TERHADAP Streptococcus mutans
Background: The main bacteria that causes dental caries is Streptococcus mutans. Dental caries can be prevented by chemical means using toothpaste. Herbal ingredients can be used as an alternative to antibacterial ingredients in toothpaste. Duku seed extract had antibacterial activity against S. mutans because it contains alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, and tannins. This study aimed to determine the antibacterial activity of duku seed extract toothpaste (Lansium domesticum) against S. mutans. Methods: This study was an in vitro laboratory experimental study with a post-test only control group design and was divided into five groups, namely duku seed extract toothpaste 1.56%, 3.12%, 6.25%, Pepsodent toothpaste as positive control, and placebo toothpaste as a negative control. The toothpaste was then tested for its antibacterial activity against S. mutans using the disc diffusion method. The value of the inhibition zone was then measured with calipers in millimeters. Data were analyzed using the Kruskal wallis statistical test and the Mann Whitney post hoc test. Results: This study showed that duku seed extract toothpaste with a concentration of 3.12% had the largest average inhibition zone. The results of statistical analysis showed that duku seed extract toothpaste in all of the group concentration had a significant difference to the negative control (p0.05). Conclusion: Duku seed extract toothpaste has antibacterial activity against S. mutans. Keywords: antibacterial activity, duku seed extract, toothpaste, Streptococcus mutans.
