PERBEDAAN GAMBARAN ALVEOLAR CREST PASIEN PERIODONTITIS DENGAN DAN TANPA HIPERGLIKEMIA MENGGUNAKAN RADIOGRAFI PANORAMIK
Periodontitis is an inflammatory disease caused by specific microorganisms which can cause progressive damage to the periodontal tissues. Periodontitis can be affected by systemic conditions, one of which is an increase in blood glucose levels. Hyperglycemia can affect directly or indirectly on the reduction of alveolar bone. Objective: to see differences in alveolar crest appearance between chronic periodontitis patients with and without hyperglycemia using panoramic radiography. Methods: This study was a descriptive study with a quantitative approach using 47 panoramic radiographs of chronic periodontitis patients which were grouped into 24 radiographs of hyperglycemia patients and 23 radiographs of patients without hyperglycemia. Then, both groups were observed for the percentage of resorption, pattern of bone loss, and severity of periodontitis through panoramic radiographs which were measured using the IC Measure Software. Results: The results of the Chi-Square test regarding differences in alveolar crest appearance between chronic periodontitis patients with and without hyperglycemia obtained p = 0.000 in the percentage of resorption and severity of periodontitis and p = 0.559 in patterns of bone loss. Conclusion: There is significant differences in the alveolar crest appearance of periodontitis patients with and without hyperglycemia using panoramic radiography, namely the percentage of resorption and the severity of periodontitis. Meanwhile, there was no significant difference in the pattern of bone loss.
