Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on dental and oral health services throughout the world, including Indonesia. Persatuan Dokter Gigi Indonesia recommends that the postponement of health services be limited to cases of dental emergencies. Symptomatic irreversible pulpitis and acute periapical abscess are among the most frequently reported cases of dental emergencies during the COVID-19 pandemic. Aim: This study aims to determine the number of cases of symptomatic irreversible pulpitis and acute periapical abscess at the RSKGM of South Sumatra Province during the COVID-19 pandemic and compare them with before the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: This type of research is descriptive observational with a total sampling technique according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. The sample used is SIMRS BPJS RSKGM South Sumatra Province. Result: The number of cases of symptomatic irreversible pulpitis during the COVID-19 pandemic was 264 cases and 0 cases of acute periapical abscess. Most cases of symptomatic irreversible pulpitis based on age during the COVID-19 pandemic were 15-60 years (76.5%) with female sex (61.7%). There were no differences in age and sex comparisons of symptomatic irreversible pulpitis patients before or during the COVID-19 pandemic. Conclusion: The number of cases of symptomatic irreversible pulpitis and acute periapical abscess at the RSKGM of South Sumatra Province decreased during the pandemic. There was no difference in the number of cases by age and sex both before and during the pandemic.
