Background: Dental caries is a condition characterized by tissue damage in the enamel, dentin, and extending into the pulp. Preschool-age children often experience dental caries due to their habit of consuming high-sugar foods. Dental caries in children is associated with quality of life. Measuring quality of life related to dental and oral health is an analysis of individual factors that influence physical, psychological, social, and economic factors. Objective: To determine the relationship between dental caries and the quality of life in 4-5 year-old children at TK Kartika II-1 Palembang. Method: This study is a descriptive analytical study with a cross-sectional design conducted on May 13, 2023, at TK Kartika II-1 Palembang. The sample was taken using total sampling, with a total of 70 children. The status of dental caries was measured using the def-t index, and the quality of life in children was measured using the Early Childhood Oral Health Impact Scale (ECOHIS). Results: The data were analyzed using the chi-square test with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). The average def-t scores of 4-5 year-old children at TK Kartika II-1 Palembang were classified as high. The frequency of dental caries was very high at 38.6%, and the impact on quality of life was less at 41.4%. Conclusion: There is a relationship between dental caries and the quality of life in 4-5 year-old children at TK Kartika II-1 Palembang, where higher levels of dental caries correspond to poorer quality of life.
