The initial encounter between two cultures can create an unfamiliar atmosphere that can lead to a crisis. Several studies have proven that the poor psychological state of the communicator can be an obstacle to effective communication. This situation can be a problem in work activities where communication is the main tool, one of which is the Field Assessing Officer (PPL) profession. PPL Central Statistics Agency (BPS) has a role to collect community data used as the basis for state development. However, PPL faces a situation where they meet with different people so a state of uncertainty and anxiety is very likely for them to experience. This study aims to determine the state of anxiety and uncertainty and the forms of management carried out by PPL BPS Palembang City in the 2022 Preliminary Research and Research Data Collection activities in Sako District. This study refers to the theory of Anxiety Uncertainty Management by grouping seven categories of visible causes and mindfulness to achieve effective communication. The research data were obtained from the results of in-depth interviews and documentation studies using qualitative descriptive research methods. The results showed that PPL experienced a state of anxiety and uncertainty and continued to carry out the management process because of the different situations and opponents they encountered. Researchers also found that mindfulness can successfully lead PPLs to choose alternative attitudes that tend to create effective communication.
