GERAKAN PROTES PASAR GRATIS PALEMBANG SEBAGAI BUDAYA TANDING TERHADAP BUDAYA KONSUMERISME
This research is entitled “Palembang Free Market Protest Movement as a Counterculture to Consumerism Culture”. The research problem discussed is regarding the counterculture form of the Free Market as a protest movement from consumerism culture. In describing field findings, this research is a descriptive research using the new social movement theory by Jurgen Habermas as the analytical knife, also using a phenomenological strategy. Data collection was obtained through in-depth interviews with eight (8) informants, accompanied by active participation observation and documentation. The results of the study show that the Palembang Free Market is a counterpoint to consumerism culture through the redistribution of clothes that are still suitable for use, sharing drawing skills with visitors regardless of social status, and distributing food that is still fit for consumption. Partists promote solidarity and bring collectivism values to help others horizontally, as well as express social protest against inequality and consumer culture; this makes Partis different from charity work. Keywords: Counterculture, Social Movements, Consumerism.
