KARAKTERISTIK DAN POLA PERSEBARAN SILICIFIED COAL PADA TAMBANG BATUBARA AREA KUNGKILAN, KABUPATEN LAHAT, SUMATERA SELATAN
The Muara Enim Formation is one of the largest coal-producing formations in Indonesia, located in South Sumatra. This research area is located in the BME PIT Kungkilan Area, Lahat Regency, South Sumatra. One of the disturbing factors in the coal mining process is the presence of silicified coal in the coal seams. Silicified coal is an organic material that has died and then precipitated, then the material is filled with silica minerals so that it hardens and changes components in the organic material. This study aims to determine the characteristics and distribution patterns of silicified coal. By using research methods using primary data taken at the research location, as well as secondary data obtained from the company. Silicified coal itself is spread on the top and bottom of the coal in the form of lenses and layers that follow the direction of the continuity of the coal. Silicified coal in the study area was found with a thickness varying around 2cm-25cm. Based on the results of XRD and petrographic analysis of silicified coal samples, there are minerals that predominate, namely silica minerals, high silica content will affect the quality of the coal, and its hardness can damage the tool. This can lead to complaints from consumers and companies. In order to minimize the impact of damage and decrease in the quality of coal, it is necessary to make a map of the distribution of silicified coal.
