AKTIVITAS PUPISIDA JAMUR ENTOMOPATOGEN YANG DIISOLASI DARI SERANGGA ASAL SUMATERA SELATAN YANG DIAPLIKASIKAN SECARA TOPIKAL PADA Spodoptera frugiperda
Spodoptera frugiperda is an important pest that is dangerous for maize originating from America. In 2019 this pest was reported to have entered Indonesia and attacked maize plants in the Sumatra area. The larvae of S. frugiperda can eat quite a lot of the cobs and leaves of young corn and even run out, causing the corn to experience a decline and even a significant loss of yield. Biological control that can be carried out to suppress the population of S. frugiperda is by using biological agents of entomopathogenic fungi. However, no control has been found for S. frugiperda pupae, especially in South Sumatra. For this reason, this study aims to determine the pupicidal activity of the entomopathogenic fungi Beauveria bassiana and Metarhizium anisopliae and their effect on the mortality and development of S. frugiperda. This research was conducted using a completely randomized design (CRD) with 10 isolates of the fungus B. bassiana and 5 isolates of the fungus M. anisopliae and 1 control treatment which was repeated 3 times using the S. frugiperda pupae test. The observed variables were the effect of the application of entomopathogenic fungi as fertilizers on the development of S. frugiperda. The results showed that the fifteen fungal isolates caused mortality which did not have a significant difference in S. frugiperda pupae, but the entomopathogenic fungus that caused the highest mortality in S. frugiperda pupae was B. bassiana with isolate code JGPB260521A, 57.33%. The pupae that became imago after the application of entomopathogenic fungi produced a very small number of eggs with the isolate code B. bassiana JGSR300521, which the average number of eggs produced was 17.33 eggs. Meanwhile, the highest larvae mortality was caused by the fungus B. bassiana with the isolate code JGTB280521B, 37.30%. Fungus infected larvae are characterized by their bodies becoming hard, stiff, dry, and the growth of fungal hyphae that cover the larvae body. The conclusion obtained based on the results of this study is that the entomopathogenic fungus in each isolate greatly influences the mortality of S. frugiperda pupae with the isolate code B. bassiana JGPB260521A which caused the highest mortality in pupae, which is equal to 57.33% and is not significantly different from the treatment of other isolates and affects its development become an abnormal imago which resulting in very few eggs.
