Indonesians has recognized a large number of fabrics with their various shape, motifs, and types Palembang in particular has a avariety of distinctive cultures, one of which is the art of Jumputan weaving. This research uses normative legal research methods by approaching the legal issues. The provisions of Copyright Number 28 of 2014, articel 40 letter (j) states that Jumputan fabric is protected copyright work. The legal protection of the Palembang jumputan fabric motif based on commercial use in the form of motif its seven dots (bintik tujuh), palm flower (bunga janur),nine dots (bintik sembilan), dots (bintik-bintik), eggplant cucung (cucung terong) are not registered of these motifs at DJKI, that has been five dots (bintik lima) registered at the DJKI. This results motifs that have not protected can be used by other parties without the need for a license. The factors that become obstacles to The legal protection of the Palembang jumputan fabric motif in Palembang City are external factors and internal factors.The external obstacle of copyright legal protection is that it is difficult to determine the creator of the motifs since they are widely and commonly used in Palembang.Furthermore, the internal obstacles are that the craftsmen did not register te motives of their creation and they do not hve enough information about copyright. Palembang goverment have done several efforts in protecting the copyrighted works of jumputan motif, which include establishing institutions the goal of which is Jumputan Fabric Griya (Griya Kain Jumputan) to preserve jumputan fabric, monitoting commercialization, strengthening center of the fabric, registeres the motif, direct existence licensing agreement to copyright holders, and repressive protection of the jumputan copyright holders.
