PRODUKSI BIODIESEL MENGGUNAKAN KATALIS BERBASIS K2CO3 DAN ABU TANDAN KOSONG KELAPA SAWIT
In this study, the transesterification of RBDPO into biodiesel was performed in batch mode at a reaction temperature of 65°C, with a stirring speed of 450 RPM, 30% (by weight) methanol, and 2% (by weight) K2CO3 catalyst. The research incorporated independent variables, including reaction time (60, 120, 180, and 240 minutes), and the addition of EFB ash to the K2CO3 catalyst (0%, 1%, and 2% by weight). The resulting biodiesel products were evaluated for %yield and analyzed for various physical and chemical properties, such as density, acid value, total glycerol, and methyl ester content. The findings revealed that the highest reaction conversion and yield (indicated by total glycerol < 0.24% and a yield of 95.81%) were achieved with a reaction time exceeding 3 hours (180 minutes). As the transesterification reaction time increased, the methyl ester content also improved, reaching a maximum of 99.01% at a reaction time of 4 hours (240 minutes). Additionally, the incorporation of EFB ash into the K2CO3 catalyst during RBDPO transesterification resulted in enhanced biodiesel quality. Notably, the addition of 1% by weight of EFB ash to 2% by weight of K2CO3 catalyst yielded the best biodiesel quality across all variations of reaction time (60, 120, 180, and 240 minutes).
