The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the educational sector has forced universities to conduct virtual learning. Virtual learning is a learning experience that is conducted online by utilizing technology and the internet. Virtual learning that is conducted continuously for a long time can trigger academic stress on students. Therefore, this research aims to find out the relationship between virtual learning and academic stress in students of Faculty of Medicine Universitas Sriwijaya during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research employed a quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling that was used in this research was probability sampling by using a cluster sampling technique with a total number of samples were 225 respondents. This research was conducted online by distributing online questionnaires via Google Form. The data were analyzed univariate and bivariate using the chi-square test. Of the 225 respondents, 118 (52,4%) respondents claimed that virtual learning is not effective, while 107 (47,6%) respondents claimed that virtual learning is effective. Of the students who claimed that virtual learning is not effective, 8 (6,8%) students experienced low academic stress, while 86 (72,9%) students experienced medium academic stress, and 24 (20,3%) students experienced high academic stress. The p-value obtained from the statistical test was 0,014, which means there is a significant relationship between virtual learning and academic stress in students of Faculty of Medicine Universitas Sriwijaya during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results of this study are expected to be taken into consideration for educators and educational institutions, especially at the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Sriwijaya in order to conduct periodic examinations related to student mental health, one of which is through the role of academic supervisors, providing counseling guidance services, and conducting periodic evaluations of the virtual learning system.
