Indonesia is one of the countries that are active in export-import activities. Through these activities, some illegally imported goods enter Indonesia, posing a threat to the country's economy and politics. Illegal goods are indeed forbidden, and some are allowed to enter with conditions. Medical devices are one example of illegal goods that can become so if they do not have a distribution permit for medical devices following Minister of Health Regulation No. 62 of 2017. The Directorate General of Customs and Excise is one of the agencies responsible for these activities. The authors researched the Directorate General of Customs and Excise in Palembang in this study. The author applies the theory of National Protection to demonstrate how customs and excise can protect the country against economic threats posed by illegal shipments entering Palembang. This research employs qualitative methods and indicators from the theory of National Protection. The research results show that the efforts made by the Directorate General of Customs and Excise Palembang have been optimal, but there are still many irresponsible people who are still trying to import illegal shipments into the city Palembang.
