The use of note taking on the recount text writing achievement of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 53 Palembang
The objectives of this study were to find out whether or not there is any significant difference in the recount text between students who are taught by using note taking and those who are not and to find out the students’ perception of the use of Note Taking in learning recount text writing. The population in this study were the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 53 Palembang in which 38 students belonged to class VIII1 and 38 students belonged to class VIII4. Class VIII1 was the control group and VIII4 was the experimental group. The result of this study showed that there was significant difference in the recount text between students who are taught by using note taking and those who are not taught by using Note Taking because based on the equal variances assessment, the t-obtained was higher than the t-table which is about 19.606 >2.026. In the experimental group, the null hypothesis was rejected and the research hypothesis was accepted. Beside the pre-test and pos-test, the questionnaire is given to the experimental group too. The objective of the questionnaire is to see the students’ perceptions of the use of Note Taking in learning recount text writing. It showed from the students’ responses in the positive questions that Note Taking helped the students in writing recount text and also the responses to the negative questions stated that Note Taking did not bring the bad impact in the students’ recount writing.
