Teaching Reading of Descriptive Texts By Using Plan To the10 Th Graders of SMAN3 Palembang
This study investigated whether or not there were significant differences in (1) descriptive text achievement before and after students were taught by using PLAN, (2) descriptive text achievement between students who were taught by using PLAN and those who were not taught by using PLAN. This study used a quasi-experimental research method as the design. The population of the study was 365 students of the tenth graders of SMAN 3 Palembang in the academic year 2013/2014 and the sample was chosen by using purposive sampling. The total sample was 61 students. The experimental group was taught by using PLAN (Predict, Locate, Add, and Note) reading strategy. The data were collected by means of reading descriptive test which was administered as pre-test and post-test. The result of the statistical analysis showed that PLAN improved students’ reading descriptive text achievement. The result also showed that there was a significant difference between the students’ pretest and posttest for both groups. However, the difference for the experimental group was higher.
