Using instructional conversations to improve reading comprehension of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Sekayu
The objective of this study was to find out whether or not there was a significant difference in students’ reading comprehension before and after they were taught by using Instructional Conversations. This study used pre-experimental method and one group pre-test and post-test as the design. In order to maintain validity, content validity was applied. Total population sampling was chosen to take the sample; there were 36 seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Sekayu in the academic year 2012/2013 got involved in this study. The participants were taught by using Instructional Conversations method. The data were collected by means of reading test which was administered as pre-test and post-test. The result of the statistical analysis showed that there was a significant difference in students’ reading comprehension (mean difference = 27.128; p- value= .000). This result suggests that Instructional Conversations can help improve reading comprehension of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Sekayu.
