Improving reading achievement in narrative text of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Indralaya by using story face strategy and story frame strategy
This study was to find out: (1) whether or not story face strategy is effective to improve students’ reading achievement in narrative text, (2) whether or not story frame strategy is effective to improve students’ reading achievement in narrative text, and (3) whether or not there is a significant difference in reading achievement of narrative text of the eighth grade students among those who are taught by using story face strategy, those who are taught by using story frame strategy, and those who are not taught narrative reading. The method used in this study was quasi-experimental design: three-group pretest and posttest control group design. The population of this study was all of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Indralaya in academic year of 2012/2012 with the total number 182 students. There were 92 students as the sample taken from the population by using purposive sampling. There were three groups for this study. The first and the second group were the experimental groups and the third group was the control group. The experimental group 1 was taught by using story face strategy and the experimental group 2 was taught by using story frame strategy. The data gained from the test was analyzed using paired sample t-test and one way ANOVA. The calculation was done by using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) version 21.00. The results showed that the two strategies were effective to improve students’ reading achievement in narrative text. However, story face strategy was most effective compared to story frame strategy and zero strategy to improve the eighth grade students’ reading achievement in narrative text of SMP Negeri 1 Indralaya.
