A quasiexperimental was used as a design in this study. The population of this study was all the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 10 Palembang in the academic year 2012/2013. The samples of this research were two classes that consisted of 40 students for each class. They were divided into two groups, the experimental and the control group. The experimental group was given several treatments in the period of 14 meetings while the control group was not given any treatments. The instrument used to collect the data was writing test which provided for both groups. This research revealed that the use of Experiential Learning was effective in improving students’ descriptive writing achievement. The effectiveness could be seen from the mean of post tests of experimental group which was higher than the control group. The result of Independent Sample T-test showed the mean difference of post tests was 5.075. It was also proven by the value of t observed which was higher than t table. So, the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted. It means that there was a significant difference in the students’ descriptive writing achievement who were taught through experiential learning and those who were not.
