Angka harapan hidup Indonesia terus bertambah setiap tahunnya. Hal ini juga terjadi di Kota Bandar Lampung. Kenaikan angka harapan hidup akan berpengaruh dengan banyaknya jumlah lansia yang ada di suatu tempat. Di Kota Bandar Lampung sendiri jumlah lansia yang semakin bertambah tidak dibarengi dengan jumlah fasilitas lansia yang memadai seperti panti jompo atau hunian lansia lainnya. Hanya terdapat tiga panti jompo yang aktif merawat lansia di Kota Bandar Lampung. Adanya kekurangan jumlah hunian khusus lansia ini dapat mempengaruhi tingkat kemakmuran warga. Lansia yang mengalami penurunan fungsi-fungsi pada fisik dan psikisnya memerlukan wadah dimana mereka dapat tinggal secara nyaman, aman, dan terpantau sehingga kualitas hidup mereka di masa tua terjamin. Sebuah panti jompo harus memiliki desain yang dapat merespon adanya penurunan-penuran yang terjadi pada lansia. Terdapat tiga poin penting dalam penerapan konsep hunian lansia atau panti jompo. Pertama aman, sebuah panti jompo harus dapat memastikan keamanan dan keselamatan penghuninya. Kedua aktif dan mandiri, desain panti jompo dimana lansia tetap dapat melukakan aktifitas secara normal dengan pengawasan. Ketiga sirkulasi dan desain, sirkulasi pada bangunan hunian lansia memiliki standar khusus dan desain bangunan harus mampu membawa kesan nyaman dan aman pada lansia. Indonesia's life expectancy continues to increase every year. This also happened in the city of Bandar Lampung. The increase in life expectancy will affect a large number of elderly people in a certain place. In Bandar Lampung City, the increasing number of elderly people is not accompanied by an adequate number of elderly facilities, such as nursing homes or other residential areas/housing for the elderly. There are only three nursing homes that actively care for the elderly in Bandar Lampung City. The lack of housing specifically for the elderly can affect the level of prosperity of residents. The elderly who experience a decrease in their physical and psychological functions need a place where they can live comfortably, safely, and monitored so that their quality of life in old age is guaranteed. A nursing home must have a design that can respond to the declines that occur in the elderly. There are three important points in applying the concept of elderly housing or nursing homes. First is safe, a nursing home must be able to ensure the security and safety of its residents. Second is active and independent, the design of a nursing home where the elderly can still carry out their normal activities with supervision. Third is circulation and design, circulation in residential buildings for the elderly have special standards and the building design must be able to convey an impression of comfort and safety for the elderly.
