Breast milk is the best food for babies. WHO and UNICEF recommend exclusive breastfeeding for infants. Exclusive breastfeeding has been shown to have significant benefits for both mother and baby. However, exclusive breastfeeding coverage is still relatively low in which it causes stunting or obesity and other chronic diseases. Some factors that affect exclusive breastfeeding include the lack of maternal understanding of lactation and maternal confidence to breastfeed/Breastfeeding Self Efficacy (BSE). This study aims to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge about lactation management with Breastfeeding Self Efficacy (BSE) in exclusive breastfeeding in breastfeeding mothers. This research design was analytic observational with cross sectional method. The population of this study were mothers who had children aged 7-24 months. The sample was 92 respondents using purposive sampling technique who met the inclusion criteria. The research instrument used was a questionnaire. The majority of respondents, 48.9%, had a sufficient level of knowledge and for BSE,54.3% of respondents had moderate BSE. The results of data analysis using the Fisher exact test showed there was a relationship between the level of knowledge about lactation management and Breastfeeding Self Efficacy (BSE) in exclusive breastfeeding in breastfeeding mothers (p-value 0.026). Based on the results of this study, the success of exclusive breastfeeding needs to be supported by paying attention to BSE in breastfeeding mothers and providing health education about exclusive breastfeeding and lactation management on an ongoing basis.
