ANALISIS COAL LOSSES PADA TAMBANG BATUBARA DI PT BARA ALAM UTAMA MERAPI BARAT, LAHAT, SUMATERA SELATAN
PT Bara Alam Utama is a national company engaged in mining and implementing an open-pit mining system. In the period of October 2021, coal mining will occur which is located in pit 2 block 2 which consists of 3 seams. Total coal reserves of seam A, seam B, and seam C are 270,480.75 tons, and the total coal mined is 239,775.81 tons with a total coal recovery of 88.65%. Based on the Decree of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources No. 182/K/30/MEM/2018 concerning guidelines for the implementation good mining engineering practices of 90% and PT Bara Alam Utama set coal recovery at 97%, so the results obtained are below the predetermined value. This indicates that there are coal losses of 11.35% that occurred at the loading point, transportation, and temporary stockpile. Losses at the loading point are 0.88% and losses on hauling roads and temporary stockpiles are 10.47%. The factors for coal losses are that during the coal cleaning process there is a layer of coal mixed with a layer of impurities due to the seam C layer being too thin, coal transported by water due to drainage formed, material spilled in the coal transportation process, and coal left in the stockpile temporary. Efforts to minimize this are filling coal into trucks not exceeding truck capacity, finishing the coal floor by reheating the coal left on the coal floor, routine road repairs, installing vessels on trucks, and optimally loading coal in temporary stockpiles.
