UPAYA DINAS KEBUDAYAAN DAN PARIWISATA PROVINSI SUMATERA SELATAN DALAM MEMPROMOSIKAN BUDAYA DAN PARIWISATA DAERAH DI MELAKA TAHUN 2019
In the present day, the world tourism sector is massively growing. UNWTO claimed that in 2030, there will be an increase in the number of tourists on a large scale. Indonesia is a multicultural country with a variety of cultures. The diversity of Indonesian culture becomes an attractor for tourists from all over the world to visit Indonesia. The government plays a big role in promoting Indonesian tourism and culture. As a sub-state, Dinas Kebudayaan dan Pariwisata Provinsi Sumatera Selatan also took part in promoting regional tourism and cultures. One of the targeted tourist markets is the Malaysian market, especially Melaka. This research is using paradiplomacy concept from Pertti Joenniemi and Alexander Sergunin with three indicators, namely Creating a region’s positive image abroad, Cooperation with an international organization, and Increasing familiarity to find out how the efforts made by Dinas Kebudayaan dan Pariwisata Provinsi Sumatera Selatan in promoting regional culture and tourism in Melaka in 2019. The method used in this research is qualitative, the primary data used is interviews and the secondary data used is reviewing books, articles, data, and official documents. The study result is that the efforts made by Dinas Kebudayaan dan Pariwisata Provinsi Sumatera Selatan had been carried out to the maximum extent possible, but the impact of the success of these efforts could not be seen in 2020. This was due to the outbreak of COVID-19 which restricted all activities in the world.
