This research is entitled "The Phenomenon of Thuggishness in Thirty-Six Ilir Village, Tanggo Buntung Region, Gandus District, Palembang City". The research problem in this study is about the motives and experiences of thugs living as thugs in Tanggo Buntung. This study was analyzed using the theory of phenomenology from Alfred Schutz, the research method used was descriptive qualitative with a phenomenological research strategy. Data was collected through interviews with five informants, observation, semi-participants, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that the background of the thugs who carried out the pre-mass action at Tanggo Buntung was the motives and experiences they gained in their daily lives. This motive is based on the cause motive (because motive) and the purpose motive (in order motive). Thugs obtained this motive after thugs gained experience in the past, which was then used as their knowledge in carrying out thuggery acts. The ability of thugs to carry out thuggish acts raises thugs' awareness to carry out thuggish actions as part of their lives. The awareness possessed by these thugs ultimately makes the thugs in Tanggo Buntung interpret the thuggery they are doing as a way to survive. Keywords: Thuggery, Motive, experience
