PENGELASAN DISSIMILAR LAP JOINT MENGGUNAKAN SMAW: ASTM A36 DAN SS 304 DENGAN ELEKTRODA E6010 DAN E308-16
Dissimilar metal welding has the advantages of reducing production costs, reducing weight and improving welded joints. The main objective of this study was to analyze and observe the effect of electrode variations and weld joint variations on the quality of the different welds of ASTM A36 and SS 304 stainless steels. Therefore, this study aims to determine the phases formed due to fast heating and cooling cycles during the welding process and their relationship to the mechanical properties of lap joint welds for ASTM A36 and SS 304 dissimilar metals using a current of 65 A, electrodes E6010 and E308-16. Penetrant test results indicate the presence of undercut defects and discontinuity caused by instability in the welding speed carried out by the welder, this can occur due to influences such as the electrode being still moist or other substances that join during welding. The bending test shows that the bending strength value of the test material that has been welded with E6010 and E308-16 electrodes has the highest value, namely 303.6 MPa on the E6010 electrode and 254.1 MPa on E308-16.
