This research focuses on the phenomenon of childfree where researchers seek how childfree is chosen as a life choice by some women in South Sumatra. This phenomenon will be examined using the perspective of Rational Choice theory from James S Coleman. This study uses qualitative research methods with data collection techniques using interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that some women in South Sumatra Province choose childfree as a life choice because of social background preferences due to past trauma, economic background due to being busy working and pursuing careers, family background due to lack of openness and closeness to parents , and educational background that influences the decision. The meaning of the childfree decision is emancipation as an effort to liberate women from forms of inequality and social injustice, freedom to get happiness because they can choose life choices, and feminism as a form of movement to get equal rights and freedom of opinion and choice.
