This study discusses the efforts and inhibiting factors of the Village Consultative Body (BPD) in carrying out its duties as supervisor of the government of Sungai Laru village, Kikim Tengah sub-district, Lahat district, South Sumatra. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative with the determination of informants using a purposive technique with five main informants and six supporters. Data collection techniques by observing, in-depth interviews with informants, documentation and literature study were analyzed using the role theory put forward by Sutarto. South Sumatra Lahat district is to hold village meetings with the Sungai Laru village community and make village regulations based on the aspirations of the Sungai Laru village community. Then the inhibiting factors for the Village Consultative Body (BPD) in carrying out their duties as supervisors of village administration in Sungai Laru village, Kikim Tengah sub-district, Lahat district, South Sumatra, are income that is not in accordance with work as a member of the Village Consultative Council (BPD), people who lack participation in conveying aspirations to members of the Village Consultative Council (BPD) and lack of knowledge of members of the Village Consultative Council (BPD) in carrying out their duties.
