IDENTITAS COSPLAYER PADA KOMUNITAS OTAKU DI KOTA PALEMBANG
This research is entitled "Cosplayer Identity in the Otaku Community in Palembang City". The main problem taken in this study is the social identity of cosplayers. This study was analyzed using the concept of social identity by Richard Jenkins. The research method used in this research is descriptive qualitative with a case study research strategy. The collection of data obtained in this study used in-depth interview techniques with 12 informants, non-participant observation, and documentation. The results of the study show that a person's ability to achieve a cosplayer's identity through a process of identity formation, namely, identification in which an individual will identify himself as a cosplayer originates from a passion for Japanese popular culture such as anime and manga. Categorization is when cosplayers start looking for similarities with other individuals or other groups where the otaku community has similarities with cosplayers, namely both as fans of Japanese popular culture. Social comparison when cosplayers start to judge and look for comparisons of themselves with other individuals or other groups. After that, the cosplayer needs to activate and highlight his identity to show his identity to the general public through Japanese events. The identity displayed by the cosplayer is in the form of the use of attributes and several activities when in Japanese events. Keywords : Identity, Cosplayer, Otaku Community.
