From the beginning of independence until 2011, most of the implementation of Indonesia's domestic defense system was supported by the procurement of defense equipment from abroad which was imported using a buy-import system. This condition is a direct impact of the performance of the domestic Defense Industry which is still limited. For this reason, in 2011, the Indonesian government through the Ministry of Defense issued a Defense Industry cooperation policy to encourage efforts to increase and develop the domestic Defense Industry so that it is able to meet the needd for defense equipment independently Cooperation is carried out with China as a partner, which is expected to provide benefits for both Indonesia and China itself. This research will also focus on Indonesia's motives for establishing this cooperation. The theory used is the technonationalist impulse theory, through which this theory will not only analyze military aspects but also economic aspects and prestige aspects. This stady uses qualitative methods, by collecting data which will then be analyzed. Data was collected using literature study techniques, namely through secondary data such as yournals, books, or official government wehsites. The results of this study indicate that Indonesia's motives for the defense industry cooperation carried out with Chind in 2011-2021 are divided into three aspects, namely military strength, economy, and prestige. The motive in the military aspect is the achievement of accumulation of power through the addition of weapons logistics. On the economic aspect, namely the existence of economic benefits received by Indonesia, both in the form of reducing budget costs and the emergence of new industries in the country. In the aspect of image/stanus, this cooperation is exppected to he able to build the independence of the domestic defense industry, which will then affect Indonesia's prestige in the international order as a country with a stahle defense system Keywords: defense cooperation, defense industry, defense system
