EFEK PREHEATING TREATMENT PADA PENGELASAN BAJA KARBON DAN STAINLESS STEEL MENGGUNAKAN SMAW
This research aims to analyse the effect of preheating treatment on the toughness of welding results between carbon steel AISI 1037 and stainless steel AISI 304 using shield metal arch welding. The temperatures used are non, 150oC, 200oC, 250oC and 300oC with preheating treatment time of 15 minutes/temperature. From the charpy impact test, it was found that the energy absorbed by the material was the largest in specimens with 300oC preheating. In metallographic testing, specimens with 250oC preheating have many acicular ferrite structures that are ductile and can increase the toughness of the material. From XRF testing, new elements were detected such as Sb (antimony) which was formed during the welding process. In Vickers hardness testing in the HAZ area of AISI 1037 carbon steel, the hardness value decreases, while in the HAZ area of AISI 304 stainless steel the hardness value increases. From XRD testing, there are two elements detected, namely Fe and Cr at (theta 44.71o). from sem testing, the fusion line of AISI 304 stainless steel is uneven, and the base metal area of AISI 1037 carbon steel is clear with a magnification of 20,000x. The conclusion obtained is that preheating treatment in welding is very influential in increasing the toughness of the material after welding with the optimal temperature at 300oC.
