EFEK POST WELD HEAT TREATMENT PADA SAMBUNGAN LAS TAK SEJENIS SMAW AUSTENITIC STAINLESS STEEL AISI 304 DAN BAJA KARBON AISI 1037
One way to improve weld quality including phase inhomogeneity and mechanical properties is Post weld heat treatment (PWHT). This study aims to determine the effect of Post Weld Heat Treatment parameters on weld quality in welding two different types of steel namely AISI 304 and AISI 1037. The welding method chosen is Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW). Heat treatment is applied to specimens with temperature variations of 860°C, 910°C and 960°C with a holding time of 2 hours and then cooled slowly in a Ceramic Heating Pad (CHP). The tests carried out were composition test, tensile test, Vickers hardness test, microstructure observation, X-ray Diffraction (XRD) test, Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) test and EDX. The results showed that there was a decrease in tensile strength due to higher PWHT temperature. Due to the increase in PWHT temperature, which is characterized by grain enlargement and refinement of crystal grains. SEM and EDX test results revealed that the movement of carbon has caused deposits recognized as carbon enriched zone due to carbon migration. The PWHT process also makes the hardness value decrease. The higher the PWHT temperature, the lower the hardness value in the base metal, HAZ, and fusion zone areas of AISI 304 and AISI 1037 metals. Except for the fusion zone area which has a higher hardness at 860°C PWHT.
