This study aimed to determine the effect of the number of seedlings and potassium nutrients on the growth of cardamom (Amomum cardamomum L.) in the oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) polyculture system. This research was conducted in Block 1 A Oil Palm Research Garden, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Indralaya at coordinates 3°13'11.8"S, 104°38'19.6"E, November 2022 to February 2023. The oil palm plants in this plantation were 19 years old. The study of cardamom plants used a Split Plot Design. The main plot (main plot) was the treatment of KCl fertilizer application with 4 (four) levels of treatment, and subplots, namely the number of seeds with 3 (three) levels of treatment. The micro-environmental conditions for growing cardamom indicated that the intensity of sunlight under the oil palm plants was reduced by 37%, the temperature was 29,7 oC, and the relative humidity was 83%. ANOVA results showed that there was no interaction between KCl fertilizer dose and the number of seeds per planting hole. KCl fertilization had a very significant effect on plant height, stem diameter, and dry weight of rhizomes and significantly affected the number of leaves, number of shoots, and fresh weight of rhizomes. The number of seeds had a very significant effect on plant height, number of leaves, number of shoots, and fresh weight of rhizomes. Cardamom fertilization with 30 g KCl/clump gave the best results on plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, number of shoots, and fresh weight of rhizomes. Three cardamom seeds per planting hole showed the best results on the growth and yield of cardamom plants. The cultivation of cardamom plants using the polyculture system had no significant effect on the number of male flower bunches, the number of female flower bunches, the number of fruit bunches, and the increase in the number of fronds.
