PENGHAMBATAN OKSIDASI PIRIT OLEH ABU TERBANG BATUBARA PADA BERBAGAI KONDISI AIR TANAH
Sulphate soils contain layers of pyrite (FeS2) and if pyrite is oxidized it can lower soil pH. Pyrite oxidized soil has a characteristic rust or reddish yellow color. The pyrite oxidation rate can be reduced by adding ameliorants and controlling the water level. Under flooded conditions, pyrite poses no risk. This study aims to study the effect of coal fly ash and various water conditions on the inhibition of pyrite oxidation. The study used a factorial complete randomized design with two factors, namely the dose of coal fly ash and groundwater conditions. The results showed that the treatment of maintaining 5 cm of water tends to be better than the condition of water that is allowed to dry. Giving coal fly ash as much as 62.36 g kg-1 is the best treatment in maintaining soil pH, dissolved Fe and dissolved sulfate and preventing pyrite oxidation.
