PRELIMINARY HAZARD ANALYSIS PADA PEKERJAAN PENYEMPROTAN PESTISIDA DI DESA TANJUNG PERING KECAMATAN INDRALAYA UTARA
Due to the lack of implementation of occupational health and safety, farmers have a relatively high risk of work accidents. For farmers, the excessive use of pesticides has a substantial negative impact, particularly reducing environmental quality and causing health problems. This study aims to action a preliminary hazard analysis on workers spraying pesticides in the village of Tanjung Pering. This research is descriptive and uses a qualitative approach. Data collection instruments in this study used interview guidelines, hazard checklists, and PHA worksheets. The research was conducted in Tanjung Pering, North Indralaya District, South Sumatra. The sources of informants in this study were two key informants, namely the head of the farmer and farmer extension workers, and six informants, namely workers spraying pesticides. The results showed that the hazards identified based on the stages of work were pesticide splashes, pesticide doses, not using personal protective equipment, blowing against the direction, and throwing away pesticide packages. The risk analysis acted upon showed that there were 13 hazards found, then the risk ranking carried out showed that there were two high-class risks, eight serious hazard classes, two medium-risk classes, and one low-hazard class. The hazard with high risk is the dose of pesticides and residual pesticide spraying. Efforts that can be made to overcome the risk are changing chemical pesticides to plant-based pesticides, burying pesticide waste in places far from residential areas and water bodies, and conducting counseling for farmers. The recommendations for Tanjung Pering village farmers are to increase awareness of the importance of implementing occupational safety and health.
