However, conditions changed as repeated fires, illegal logging and opening of canals led to the weakening of the peat and reduced composition of native vegetation. Recovery efforts have been carried out, such as re-vegetation and normalization of canals. The damage that occurs disturbs the habitat of mammals and can threaten the number of mammal species that occupy Padang Sugihan Wildlife Reserve, so that protection and preservation of mammals is necessary. One of them is conducting an inventory of mammals using camera traps installed in lanes 3-6 with the aim of finding out the number of mammals on the research route. Overall, 12 species of mammals were caught on camera, based on the number of legs dominated by Elephas maximus sumatranus with 187 photos, and based on the largest number in the world, Macaca fascicularis played with 88 individuals.
