PENGARUH TEMPERATUR KALSINASI KATALIS SILIKA CERIUM (IV) SULFAT (Ce(SO4)2-SiO2) DENGAN TEMPLATE KHFTALAT SERTA APLIKASINYA UNTUK DEHIDRASI ISOPROPIL ALKOHOL
ABSTRACT : Ether compounds such as diisopropyl ether can be used as fuel additives. Diisopropyl ether obtained through the dehydration process of isopropyl alcohol over metal impregnated catalyst. This study aims to synthesized silica Cerium (IV) Sulfate catalyst using Phthalate as template. The catalysts prepared by calcination temperature variations at 400oC, 500oC, 600oC, 700oC, and 800oC for 3 hours. The characterization of catalyst is conducted by XRD and FTIR instruments. The measurement of acidity value of the catalyst is carried out by ammonia gas, pyridine, and back titration. The synthesized catalyst was applied to the dehydration process of isopropyl alcohol. GC-MS instrument was used to analyze the dehydrated product with Ce(SO4)2-SiO2 catalyst. Results XRD analysis of Ce(SO4)2-SiO2 catalyst 800oC obtained peak of 21,32o in accordance with JCPDS no.33-1611 has an amorphous structure with a low-crystalline phase. FTIR results of Ce(SO4)2-SiO2 800oC catalyst showed the presence of cerium metal at wavenumber 463,57 cm-1and sulfate bond at wavenumber 1095,52 cm-1. The total acidity of the Ce(SO4)2-SiO2 800oC catalyst was 0,549 mmol/g and the surface acidity was 0,064 mmol/g. The acidity of the catalyst before dehydration is 1,694 mmol/g and after dehydration is 0,739 mmol/g. The best catalyst characteristics in the study was Ce(SO4)2-SiO2 800oC with a conversion of 43,4%, selectivity of 72,4%, and yield of 31,4%.
