PEMBUATAN KOMPOSIT BENTONIT-PDA-NiO UNTUK DEGRADASI FOTOKATALITIK ZAT WARNA METILEN BIRU
This research aims to produce a Bentonite-PDA-NiO composite which can be used as a photocatalyst to degrade Methylene Blue dye. The composite was made with a mass ratio of 1:1 and then characterized using XRD, SEM-EDX, and UV-Vis DRS. The photodegradation process of Methylene Blue was carried out by varying the initial dye concentration, time, and mass of the composite, as well as at certain pHpzc conditions. XRD characterization results show that the Bentonite-PDA-NiO composite has a distinctive peak at an angle of 2θ around 37.21°, 43.28°, 62.82°, 75.34°, and 79.32°. In addition, the energy bandgap value of Bentonite-PDA-NiO obtained from the DRS UV-Vis characterization is 3.6 eV. SEM-EDX analysis showed that the Bentonite-PDA-NiO composite had a porous morphology with compositions of C, O, Al, Si, K, and Ni respectively 44.31%, 31.95%, 4.29%, 6.73%, 0.72% and 12.02%. The test results showed that the Bentonite-PDA-NiO composite was effective as a photocatalyst in degrading Methylene Blue. The best conditions for photodegradation were obtained at an initial dye concentration of 30 ppm, contact time of 75 minutes, and a composite mass of 5 mg, with an effective concentration reduction percentage of 97.20%. Thus, this study proves that the Bentonite-PDA-NiO composite has the ability to degrade Methylene Blue dye.
