The quality of coal is a physical and chemical property of coal that can affect the potential value for its utilization and usefulness. To determine the quality of coal, a chemical analysis is carried out in the form of proximate analysis by taking into account the quality parameters to be produced. Determination of coal quality can be identified using the well logging method. Administratively, the research area is located in Keban Senabing Village, Lahat Regency, South Sumatra with the aim of analyzing lithological identification results, analyzing coal seam quality data, and knowing the type of coal using ASTM classification.. There are 3 types of lithology found for both wells in the study area, namely clay, coal, and clay with different depths and average gamma ray (CPS) values. The quality of coal seam seen from each parameter in the research area is quite good and includes medium to high quality with ash content values of 3.11% and 6.35%, volatile matter 41.71% and 42.45%, and fixed carbon 38.66% and 41.2%. Based on the ASTM classification, the type of coal in the study location area is included in the high volatile A bituminous group assuming a fixed carbon (adb) value of < 69% and a volatile matter (adb) value of > 31%.
