Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a disease characterized by hyperglycemia and metabolic disorders of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins associated with absolute or relative deficiency of insulin action and or secretion. Eating patterns is the type and amount of food consumed, food patterns, including lifestyle in choosing where to eat and the type of food consumed is one of the factors causing diabetes mellitus. This study aims to determine whether eating patterns affects the incidence of diabetes mellitus in the period October 2022 - January 2023. This study is an observational analytic study with a Cross Sectional Study research design, this design is a research design in which measurements or observations are made together between data collection and measurement results with accidental sampling techniques with the aim of knowing the effect of eating patterns on blood sugar levels in patients with diabetes mellitus. The subjects in this study were all patients with diabetes mellitus who sought treatment at the poly clinic in RSI Siti Khadijah Palembang City. The sample of this study obtained 42 respondents who met the inclusion criteria. The statistical test used was the Chisqare person test. The results showed that there was no significant influence between diet and the incidence of diabetes mellitus, this was evidenced by a p value greater than 0.05, namely 0, 344 on the patient's calories per day on the patient's current blood glucose and a p value greater than 0.05, namely 0.467 on the patient's diet according to the patient's current blood sugar. Eating patterns alone is not enough to control the blood sugar of patients with diabetes mellitus, so other factors are needed to control the blood sugar of patients with diabetes mellitus.
